Independence, MN - Windsong Farm Golf Club is currently undergoing a four month renovation that will see the addition of 14 new tee boxes, redesigning the par 5 12th and a renovation of over 125 thousand square feet of bunkers using the Better Billy Bunker method. Originally designed by Tom Lehman and John Fought, Fought has returned to lead the renovation. The 248- acre site, originally a horse farm, will be lengthened by 200 yards, stretching the par 71 layout to 7,550 yards. The renovation is being led my BBB certified installer Duininck Golf, Inc. that began the project in August and plan to have the work wrapped up by November. Scottie Hines, CGCS, golf course superintendent for Windsong Farm GC told C&RB that the course will remain open for play during the renovation and that "late fall will be an ideal time to complete the project, ensuring everything will be buttoned up and the course will be in great condition for the 2016 season."
Named one of the "Best New Private" courses by Golf Digest 12 years ago, these renovations continue a great period of golf for Minnesota. As Fought put it "It's an exciting time for golf in Minnesota from the work we'll be doing here to when the Ryder Cup comes to the state next year" (clubandresortbusiness.com).
