our origin story

Billy Fuller and the Enhanced Bunker Drainage Method.

"We could not be happier with the performance of our Better Billy Bunkers. We have had tremendous results on the Lower since the installation in 2020. We look forward to opening the Upper Course in the spring of 2025 with all 36 holes now completed."

In the 1980s, Billy Fuller — then superintendent at a leading championship golf club — developed a new approach to bunker construction he called the Enhanced Bunker Drainage Method. His goal was straightforward: stop sand from washing out during heavy rain events and prevent contamination of bunker sand with native soils.

In 1994, Fuller introduced the method to the broader golf industry. Over 600 courses adopted it. But geo-textile liners remained a problem, prone to snagging, tearing, and exposure.

In 2009, ST410 Polymer — a proprietary binding agent — replaced the liner entirely. It bonds the gravel in place, allows water to pass at over 2,100 inches per hour, and eliminates the liner problem completely. The patented Better Billy Bunker Method™ was born.

Our Mission

Striving every day to do something good for the game we love.

Better Billy Bunker was born from a simple but powerful idea: that bunker construction had to be better. Drainage failures, sand migration, and inconsistent playing conditions were costing courses time and money — and frustrating golfers everywhere. Every course we work on is a commitment to making golf better — for the superintendent who shows up at 5am, for the architect who spent years designing a course, and for the golfer who expects to find a fair and consistent bunker every time.
