Stowe Country Club in Vermont, USA, has reopened its golf course following a redesign by Beau Welling Design (BWD).

The club was founded in 1950, and the course sits on land that was once Le Liberté dairy farm. Stowe embarked on a redesign in spring 2024, with work on the front nine completed in 2025.

The redesign focused on improving walkability, playability and creating more shot options. The BWD team reconstructed greens and tees, reshaped and regraded fairways, modernised the bunkers using the Better Billy Bunker system, and created a new golf facilities area. A long-term tree management plan has also been put into place.

The course has been regrassed with bentgrass across greens, tees and fairways, with Kentucky bluegrass and fescue rough. The irrigation and drainage systems were also upgraded.

“From the outset, our goal was to create a course that feels true to its setting while enhancing the overall playing experience,” said Welling. “By working with the land’s natural movement and refining its existing character, we’ve shaped a layout that offers greater variety and flexibility, making it engaging and enjoyable for players of all levels.”

“The transformation of Stowe Country Club represents a meaningful investment in both the game of golf and the future of the Stowe community,” said Sam Gaines, president of Mount Mansfield Company, the owner of Stowe Country Club. “This project honours the history of the course while reimagining it for the next generation, creating a place where members, guests, and local residents can gather to enjoy the landscape, the sport, and the shared experiences that define this region.”
